Hitched Travel Blog :: Arizona

Last summer, my husband and I did a coast-to-coast road trip. We blocked out two weeks in our schedule and planned each day on a whim, which totally goes against the planner in me! We piled in as many activities and sights as we could so it’s hard to pick a favorite spot. But, the beauty in Arizona is hard to beat. In just one day we hit three of the main scenic spots in AZ- the Grand Canyon, Horseshoe Bend and Antelope Canyon.

Name: Caitlin

Where you traveled: Arizona

When: July 2018

Where you stayed: Hampton Inn & Suites in Gallup, NM

Favorite Part: Antelope Canyon
Antelope Canyon is a must! The pictures are beautiful but there’s nothing quite like walking through the canyon in person. You might recognize it from Britney Spear’s music video for “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Women.” Yep, our tour guide was VERY proud of that. Also, the most expensive photograph ever sold, “The Phantom” by Peter Lik, was taken in the canyon. It sold for $6.5 million.

Best Food: Some of our favorite food came from the local restaurants we tried driving through small towns, especially the BBQ! Eating fast food gets old, so trying the local places is always a good time!

What you wish you knew before you went: You need to buy tickets for the Antelope Canyon Tour far in advance. We got pretty lucky finding two open tickets the night before. Don’t wait like we did!

Attire: Wear something comfortable and cool. You’re going to want a backpack full of water too!

Honeymoon Rating: 7 – If you’re into adventure, this would be the trip for you. If you’d rather relax by the pool (and not sit in a car for hours on end), you might want to save this trip for an anniversary.

Romance: 7 – Experiencing these incredible views with your loved one is pretty romantic, even if you’re surrounded by other tourists!

Fun: 8 – We have countless memories from this trip that we’ll cherish. So, of course, we’re already planning our next road trip.
